BioVector? BioVector? MDCK-SIAT1 is a derivative of the MDCK (Madin-Darby Canine Kidney) cell line stably transfected with the human SIAT1 (ST6Gal-I, $\alpha$2,6-sialyltransferase) gene. This cell line was engineered to address the limitations of parental MDCK cells in influenza research. Human influenza viruses preferentially bind to $\alpha$2,6-linked sialic acid receptors, whereas standard MDCK cells predominantly express $\alpha$2,3-linked receptors. By overexpressing SIAT1, MDCK-SIAT1 cells mimic the receptor distribution of the human upper respiratory tract, significantly enhancing the isolation rate and titer of human influenza viruses. It is an industry-standard model for influenza surveillance and vaccine research.
