The BioVector? RPTEC/TERT1 (human Renal Proximal Tubule Epithelial/Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase 1) cell line is a well-characterized, telomerase-immortalized human cell line derived from the proximal tubule of a healthy adult male kidney -4-10. It was established by transfecting primary renal proximal tubule epithelial cells with the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene, which allows the cells to bypass replicative senescence while retaining the key morphological and functional characteristics of their primary cell counterparts -10. This results in a stable, reproducible, and physiologically relevant in vitro model of the human renal proximal tubule -5-7.
