The HCC1187 cell line is an adherent, human breast cancer cell line widely used as a model for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) research. It was isolated from a 41-year-old female patient with an invasive ductal carcinoma and is part of a panel of cell lines developed to represent the molecular diversity of breast cancers. Key Characteristics Organism: Homo sapiens (Human) Tissue: Mammary gland/breast (primary ductal carcinoma) Disease: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, TNM Stage IIA, Grade 3 Sex: Female Ethnicity: White (Caucasian) Morphology: Epithelial-like adherent cells that grow in floating aggregates of round cell clusters and as attached epithelial-like cells. Growth Properties: Adherent monolayer. Doubling Time: Reported around 69-100 hours. Phenotype: Triple-negative (lacks expression of Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesterone Receptor (PR), and HER2-neu). Genotype: Poorly differentiated and overexpresses p53. It has a hypotriploid karyotype with complex genomic abnormalities.
