NTCC? KGN cell line is an immortalized human ovarian granulosa-like tumor cell line widely used as an in vitro model for studying ovarian function, hormone regulation, and diseases like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian cancer.

Key Characteristics
Origin: Derived from a stage III ovarian granulosa cell tumor from a 63-year-old Japanese woman.
Morphology and Growth: Adherent cells with a fibroblast-like morphology and a relatively slow population doubling time of around 46.4 hours.
Functionality: KGN cells retain key physiological characteristics of normal granulosa cells, including the expression of functional follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) receptors and steroidogenic activity. They can produce progesterone and estrogen, particularly after stimulation with agents like forskolin or dibutyryl cyclic adenosine monophosphate (dbcAMP).
Genetic Profile: The cell line has an abnormal karyotype (45, XX, 7q-, -22) and features a common somatic mutation in the FOXL2 gene (p.Cys134Trp, or c.402C>G), which is found in almost all adult-type granulosa cell tumors.
