Source: The parental NuTu-19 line was developed from a spontaneous ovarian surface epithelial cell tumor in a female Fischer 344 rat.
Cell Type: Rat ovarian adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line.
Luciferase Expression: The NuTu-19-luc line has been transduced to constitutively express the firefly luciferase gene. This genetic modification allows the cells to produce a bioluminescent signal, which can be detected with specialized imaging equipment when the substrate luciferin is added.
In vivo cancer research: The cells can be injected into laboratory animals (e.g., rats) to create a tumor model. The resulting tumors can then be monitored non-invasively and in real-time using bioluminescence imaging (BLI).
Metastasis tracking: The bioluminescent signal allows researchers to quantitatively track tumor growth, progression, and metastasis within a living animal.
