The LNCaP95 cell line is a heterogeneous cell population of prostate cancer cells that are androgen-independent:
- OriginLNCaP95 cells are derived from the LNCaP cell line, which was cultured in charcoal-stripped serum media for a long time to deprive it of androgen.
- CharacteristicsLNCaP95 cells have an epithelial cell-like morphology with dendritic cell-like extensions. They are more tumor initiating than the parental LNCaP cells.
- SublinesClones have been isolated from the LNCaP95 cell line to develop sublines for more reproducible data in in vivo experiments. One clone, LNCaP95-D3, was found to have the most reproducible growth of subcutaneous xenografts in castrated immunodeficient mice.
- ApplicationsThe LNCaP95-D3 subline may be suitable as a xenograft tumor model for preclinical drug development.
